Fresh flowers are a beautiful and easy way of adding colour to your cake decoration. The important thing to remember is that they should be pesticide free (check with your florist or use wild or garden flowers that you know are safe). It’s best to add your flowers just before you serve your cake as they will start to wilt once they’re out of water. Remember to remove them before cutting and serving too.

  1. If you’re making a cake for a special occasion like a wedding, let the florist know what size the cake is and ask them to arrange the flowers for you. They will be able help you choose flowers that will stay fresh out of water and will have clever tips for how to keep them looking their best.
  2. As an alternative, serve a simply decorated cake or a collection of cakes alongside arrangements of flowers in small jars, tins or vases.
