Always use long-grain rice for Burmese meals. Allow 200 g rice for 2 or 3 people. For every 200 g of long-grain rice allow 500 ml water. For each cup of rice additional to the first cup, allow 375 ml water.

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
200g rice, plus 500 ml water
or 400g rice, plus 875 ml water
or 600g rice, plus 1.25 litres water

Method

  1. Wash the rice well and drain in a colander for 30 minutes. Put the rice and water into a saucepan and bring to the boil. Reduce the heat to low, give it a good stir, then cover and cook for 20 minutes, without lifting the lid or stirring, until the rice is tender and all the liquid has been absorbed.
