Bangin’ berry tart

This awesome dessert reminds me of a rather naughty version from a well-known London patisserie. It’s fresh, vibrant, sweet and tart, easy to make, and best of all, absolutely nutrient packed.


Quantity Ingredient
80ml olive oil, plus extra for greasing
230g rolled oats
60g almonds
60g walnuts
230g wholemeal flour
1 teaspoon cinnamon
2 tablespoons maple syrup
200g fresh blueberries
200g fresh blackberries
2 teaspoons stevia
thick live probiotic yoghurt, to serve


  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C and grease a 23 cm tart tin with olive oil. Make the tart case by putting the oats, almonds and walnuts in a blender or food processor and blitzing to make a coarse, flour-like texture. Add the flour, cinnamon, olive oil and maple syrup to form a soft dough. Press it into the base of the tart tin. Bake for 20 minutes, or until golden brown and firm. Set aside and cool.
  2. Meanwhile, put the blueberries and blackberries in a saucepan along with 2 tablespoons water and the stevia. Simmer over a medium-high heat for 30–40 minutes. This constant simmering will make the fruit break down and start to take on a jam-like texture, without the need to add thickeners. Carefully pour the filling into the cooled tart base, and chill for 4 hours. Serve with a good dollop of yoghurt on the side.

  • Purple berries are among the healthiest fruits, thanks to the anthocyanins that create their deep purple colour, which are great for circulation. They’re taken up by the cells that line the blood vessels, encouraging them to make nitric oxide, which helps the blood vessel walls relax, reducing pressure.
