OK, it’s not all about muesli, but many people do like morning cereal, and provided you make your own and use good ingredients, they needn’t be bad at all. The ingredients below are to make a bulk batch. Eat it with milk or yoghurt – whatever you fancy.

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
500g porridge oats
150g raisins
150g goji berries
150g mixed seeds, such as pumpkin and sunflower seeds
150g mixed nuts, chopped, such as walnuts and Brazil nuts

Method

  1. Mix all the ingredients together and store in an airtight container, where it will keep for about 2 months.

Good for:

  • Blood sugar management, high cholesterol, digestive health

Clever combination:

  • One of the pitfalls of many breakfast cereals is the fact that they’re like sugar bombs, and can send blood sugar levels spiralling out of control. The combination of good-quality protein with complex carbohydrates will help stabilise blood sugar, and the oats, seeds and nuts provide exactly that.
