The weird name comes from the strange, sludgy colour of this drink. But don’t let the colour put you off – this really is a powerhouse of a recipe, and tastes pretty good too.

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
100ml apple juice
4 tablespoons frozen blackberries, plus extra to garnish (optional)
2 handfuls baby spinach
1 ripe banana

Method

  1. Place all the ingredients in a blender and blitz into a thick, if somewhat gruesome-coloured, smoothie. Serve immediately, with ice and a few more blackberries, if you like.

Good for:

  • Skin health, eye health, high cholesterol and high blood pressure, digestive health

Star ingredient:

  • Spinach is packed to the hilt with vitamin C and flavonoids, which deliver benefits for the cardiovascular system, the skin, eyes and even digestive health.
