This is great for easing you into a good night’s sleep if you prefer a savoury snack.

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
1/2 ripe avocado
1/2 lemon, juiced
1/2 wholemeal english muffin
3 slices turkey breast, cooked
1 sprig fresh dill, (optional)
sea salt
black pepper

Method

  1. Scoop out the avocado flesh into a bowl, add the lemon juice and season with salt and pepper. Mash with a fork to give a guacamole-like texture.
  2. Toast the muffin half. Place the mashed avocado on the toasted muffin and top with the turkey slices and some fresh dill leaves, if you like.

Clever combination:

  • Turkey isn’t only a lean protein source – it’s also one of the richest sources of the amino acid tryptophan, which is turned into the neurotransmitter serotonin. One of serotonin’s major roles is to regulate sleep patterns, as it can be transformed into another neurotransmitter called melatonin, which induces sleep. Tryptophan needs to be eaten with a complex carbohydrate to give a subtle rise in insulin to catapult the tryptophan into the brain, so the wholemeal muffin provides the leg-up it needs.
