If there is one thing I have learnt during my years working as an art director at interiors magazines, it is that a kitchen isn’t complete without a large chalkboard scribbled with shopping lists or artfully scrawled clichés. I write that with a tiny bit of irony. My personal experience is that these chalkboards usually just end up being filled with kids’ clutter and whenever we do list a missing ingredient on it, we tend to forget to buy it. But recently we have actually started using that pretty little vintage chalkboard of ours, to write weekly meal plans on it together with our daughter. We have found that involving Elsa in the planning really helps her get excited about the food that is being served throughout the week. And that often also leads to her helping out in the kitchen. We try to keep the menu varied but simple. This is how a week’s meals in our house might look:

Monday: A pasta dish

Tuesday: A curry or a soup with quinoa on the side

Wednesday: A tray of oven-roasted vegetables and halloumi

Thursday: A stir-fry (using the leftover quinoa from Tuesday

Friday: Crêpes with a variety of fillings (using whatever is left from the week)

We have also included our #GKS Bowls which we often make for lunch. At first glance they might just seem like random food tucked into a bowl, but there is actually a thought and method behind them to get a balanced mix of ingredients, texture and nutrients. David
