Smoothies are fantastic on their own – quick to make, easy to vary, filled with healthy fruit and vegetables and, most importantly, delicious to drink. It wasn’t like we intended to take something simple and make it more complicated. We just realized, around our 537th smoothie, that there were a few methods we could use to make our smoothies even better. So in this chapter we serve them in bowls with lots of granola and fresh fruit on top; we layer them in high glasses together with chia pudding, yoghurt or nut butter; we pour them over mashed fresh berries to create beautiful swirls of colour; and we make amazing two-coloured smoothies from one single smoothie batch. This way we get a variation in texture and flavour, and it often also makes a more substantial meal. Not to mention, they all look showstopping! These are not smoothies that you keep in your gym bag, but ones you can proudly serve to friends who pop over. In contrast to their impressive look, most of the recipes in this chapter are not difficult to make at all. They of course take a little more preparation than in the Simple Smoothies chapter, but we promise that they are worth it. Use these recipes as a start and, before you know it, you will be creating showstopping smoothies of your own.
