Ice-cold wheatgrass morning shooter

The photo of this wheatgrass shot was taken at a stall in the Union Square Green Market in New York – the very epicentre of the healthy-living hype. They, of course, squeeze their wheatgrass through a manual juicing machine and people line up to drink the not-so delicious but oh-so nutritious shot straight up. At home I have a slightly different way of preparing my wheatgrass shot. Even though it would be cool to have a wheatgrass juicer on our kitchen counter, there are about a dozen other kitchen appliances that are more important. Instead, we use dried wheatgrass powder that we mix up with lots of fresh lime and ginger for a much nicer flavour. — Luise

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
2 limes
2.5cm fresh ginger
1 teaspoon wheatgrass powder, or more to taste

Method

  1. Place 2 shot glasses in the freezer for as much time as you have. Juice the limes and ginger in a juicer and pour into a jug. (Alternatively, squeeze the lime by hand and grate the ginger on a fine grater.) Add the wheatgrass powder and give it a really good stir. Remove the shot glasses from the freezer and pour the juice into them. Drink immediately. Cheers!
