This vegan chocolate mousse is pretty far from the traditional kind. First of all, it is ridiculously simple, taking no more than 3 minutes to make. None of the common ingredients (heavy cream, chocolate, eggs, butter) are used – instead the creaminess and sweetness come from avocado and banana and the flavour from nut butter and cacao powder. We usually use almond butter, but when we don’t have it at home we also use peanut butter or hazelnut butter.

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
2 ripe avocados, halved, stoned and peeled
3 ripe bananas
80g Homemade nut and seed butter
30g cacao powder
2 tablespoons carob powder
2 tablespoons hemp seeds, optional
pinch sea salt
fresh berries, to serve

Method

  1. Put all ingredients in a blender or food processor. Puree for about 30 seconds or until it reaches a mousse-like consistency. Scoop into glasses or small coffee cups and put in the fridge for 30 minutes. Serve topped with fresh berries.

Tip

  • Cacao and carob powder complete each other, both in taste and nutritional values. Cacao is rich in magnesium and carob is rich in calcium.
