Bacana means ‘cool’ in Portuguese, and this berry soda is not only refreshing, but is also easy to make, and looks beautiful in a clear glass garnished with fresh fruit. A refresco is a cold fruit drink that’s sipped as an alternative to a refrigerante (a bottled or canned soft drink).

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
4 blackberries, plus extra to garnish (optional)
4 raspberries, plus extra to garnish (optional)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla sugar
handful cracked ice
2 tablespoons grapefruit juice
100ml lemonade
50ml soda water

Method

  1. Muddle the berries with the vanilla sugar in a tall, sturdy glass, then fill with cracked ice until it is two-thirds full. Add the grapefruit juice and stir. Top with the lemonade and soda. Stir again and serve immediately, garnished with blackberries and raspberries if you like.
