I’ve often been disappointed by commercial mueslis – I find they are either too sweet or else bland and tasteless. Of course, it’s always a matter of taste and that’s one very good reason to make your own. My friend Flip Shelton, who is a triathlete and also a great cook, makes a great range of mueslis that you can purchase from good supermarkets and delicatessens. Flip has kindly helped me with this terrific recipe for those people who would like to experiment with making their own muesli at home.

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
4 cups rolled oats
1 cup wheat bran
1 cup quick cooking oats
1/2 cup pecans
1/2 cup hazelnuts or other nuts
1/4 cup pumpkin seeds
1/4 cup sunflower seeds
1/4 cup dried apple
1/4 cup sultanas

Method

  1. Mix all the ingredients together and store in an airtight container. Use within 3 months.
