Take care when adding the rum to the pan and igniting it. If you are serving this to children, you can omit the rum and the flaming of the bananas.

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
6 ripe bananas
115g caster sugar
50g butter
60ml rum
100ml cream
6 scoops * vanilla ice cream [rid:38877]

Method

  1. Peel the bananas and liberally coat them with the sugar.
  2. Melt the butter in a non-stick frying pan over medium heat. Add the bananas and excess sugar and cook for a few minutes on each side until the sugar caramelises and turns golden brown.
  3. Slowly pour the rum into the pan, then very carefully light a match and ignite the rum. Shake the pan a little to prevent the bananas from sticking.
  4. When the flame is out, pour in the cream and boil for a few seconds.
  5. Transfer the bananas to serving plates, spooning a little sauce over them. Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
