Buñuelos – Argentinian doughnuts – are a ‘must’ at any Argentinian Chanukah table. A banana can be substituted if preferred to apples.

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
350g plain flour
pinch salt
3 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 1/2 cup full-cream milk
3 eggs, separated
1 large red apple, for frying

Method

  1. Mix the flour, salt, sugar, baking powder, milk and egg yolks until well combined. Beat the egg whites until they form soft peaks, then add them to the mixture.
  2. Roughly chop the apple and add to the batter.
  3. Heat the oil in a wok or large saucepan. Spoon tablespoons of the batter into the oil and fry until golden. Turn to brown evenly. Serve hot.
