Ingredients

12 medjool dates
1 cup red wine
1 cup walnuts, chopped
pistachios, for garnish (optional)
matzah, to serve

Method

  1. Pit the dates and place them in a saucepan with 1 cup water. Simmer over low heat for about 20 minutes, or until the water has been absorbed and the dates have formed a thick paste-like consistency.
  2. Using a hand-held blender, purée the mixture until smooth, then stir in the wine. Allow the mixture to cool.
  3. Stir in the walnuts, sprinkle with pistachios if desired, and serve with matzah.
