Soups do the body good, they really do. They are so warming and soothing, that sometimes I almost feel like someone has just given me a big hug after eating a bowl! P.S. These soups are great on their own or, for a bigger meal, serve them with your favourite toasted bread. (I’m a big fan of rye!)

1. Tomatoes

Tomatoes are incredibly nutrient dense and we could all surely benefit from including them in our diets more regularly! As well as providing the body with several of the essential vitamins and minerals that it needs, tomatoes also help to prevent chronic disease. This disease-fighting ability comes from the presence of lycopene, which is a phytonutrient that has particularly strong links to battling certain cancers.

2. Chilli flakes (red pepper flakes)

Chilli flakes get their taste and spicy kick from capsaicin, which is known to combat inflammation in the body as well as being heralded as a natural painkiller when applied topically. Consuming chilli flakes regularly is shown to lower blood cholesterol and they also act as a powerful natural decongestant.

3. Carrots

Carrots are a popular food and they provide several important health benefits. Not only do they contain high levels of fibre, vitamin K, potassium and beta-carotene, but they are also linked to weight loss, lowered cholesterol levels and improved vision.

4. Radishes

Radishes are cruciferous vegetables that have a unique flavour. Their crunchy texture makes them a pleasure to eat and they are amazing for soothing sore throats, aiding digestion and helping to prevent infection. Regular consumption of radishes is also thought to help rid the body of damaging toxins.
