These chocolate protein balls are the perfect energy-fuelling snack to have before or after a workout. They are fudgy, chocolatey and totally delicious.

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
50g chocolate flavoured plant-based protein powder
1 tablespoon raw cacao powder
1 tablespoon maca powder
90g cashew butter
or any nut or seed butter
90g maple syrup
or raw honey or rice malt syrup
55g ground almonds
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
or 1/2 teaspoon vanilla powder
3 medjool dates, pitted, about 60 g
35g goji berries
45g inca berries, optional
40g cacao nibs

Method

  1. Place the protein powder, raw cacao powder, maca powder, cashew butter, maple syrup, ground almonds, vanilla and dates in your food processor and pulse until a fine meal is formed. Add the goji and inca berries (if using) and pulse until they are just crushed.
  2. Next, take about a tablespoon of mixture at a time and roll it into 2.5 cm balls. Place them in an airtight container in the fridge or freezer. These will keep for up to 2 weeks in the fridge, and a couple of months in the freezer.

NOTE

  • To make these completely nut-free, replace the ground almonds with 60 g sunflower seeds, blitzed into a meal in the food processor. And make sure you choose a seed butter instead of a nut butter.
