When hamburger patties are cooked directly on muffins, all the good juices are absorbed.

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
25g rolled oats
60ml evaporated milk
500g minced steak
1 teaspoon salt
freshly ground black pepper
1/4 teaspoon dry mustard
1 small onion, grated
1 egg, lightly beaten
3 english muffins
butter
chutney

Method

  1. To make hamburgers, place rolled oats and milk in a blender or food processor and process until oats are finely chopped (or chop oats by hand and mix thoroughly with milk). Lightly mix oats, meat, salt, pepper, mustard and onion in a large bowl, then stir in egg with a fork. Using wet hands, shape into 6 patties the same diameter as a muffin.
  2. Split muffins in half and toast both sides under grill. Spread with butter then with chutney. Put a hamburger patty on each muffin and smooth it out to cover top. Pinch it down round edge of muffin so it will not shrink away during cooking.
  3. Cook under a preheated medium grill for 10–12 minutes. Serve at once.
