Beetroot and capers add piquancy to these little meat cakes.

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
750g minced beef
1 tablespoon capers
1 egg, lightly beaten
80g beetroot, cooked and finely chopped
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 slices white bread, soaked in 1 tablespoon milk
1/4 teaspoon worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon salt
freshly ground black pepper
oil

Method

  1. Combine all ingredients, except oil, in a bowl, mixing well with a fork. Form into 8 flat patties, handling lightly. Grease an ovenproof dish with a little oil and place patties in it.
  2. Bake in a preheated moderate oven for about 30 minutes, turning once to brown both sides. Serve with mashed potatoes and a salad or green vegetables.

Note

  • These little cakes may also be panfried. Allow 7–8 minutes on each side.
