This can be smooth or chunky and is made by pounding or grinding a variety of blanched and roasted nuts to a butter-like spread. The best known nut butter is peanut butter, but others are made from almonds, cashews, pecans, walnuts, hazelnuts and pine nuts. Nut butters will keep for months if stored in a cool, dry place.

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
320g unsalted almonds or cashews, or other nuts, toasted
3-6 tablespoons safflower or vegetable oil
1 teaspoon salt

Method

  1. Put nuts, half the oil and the salt in a blender or food processor. Purée to desired consistency, adding more oil if necessary. Store in sealed, airtight jars.
