Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
165g sugar
250ml water
250ml dry red wine
2 cloves
8 cm stick cinnamon
2 slices lemon
8 oranges

Method

  1. Dissolve sugar in water and stir in wine. Add cloves, cinnamon stick and lemon slices. Bring to the boil and simmer until the mixture is thick and syrupy. Allow to cool a little.
  2. Peel oranges, removing all white pith, and cut into 1 cm thick slices. Place in a bowl and pour over warm spiced wine. Chill. Serve alone, or with sour cream sweetened with brown sugar.
