Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
500g split green peas, soaked in water overnight and drained
2 litres water
1 ham bone
freshly ground black pepper
4 bratwurst sausages, (optional)
or 6 frankfurts, (optional)
salt

Method

  1. Place peas, water and ham bone in a large saucepan and bring to the boil. Season with salt and pepper, and simmer for 30 minutes.
  2. Remove ham bone and cut off meat. Chop meat and set aside.
  3. Strain soup through a sieve, return to pan and reheat.
  4. Heat sausages or frankfurts, if using, in hot water, then drain and slice. Add to soup with ham. Adjust seasoning.
