French onion soup

Method

  1. Prepare the soup as for French onion soup. Meanwhile, cut a baguette into thick slices and toast or bake. Bring the soup to the boil. Divide the bread between individual ovenproof bowls. Pour boiling soup over. Cover with fine slivers of Gruyère cheese and put under a hot griller until the cheese melts and browns lightly. Serve immediately.
