MR: Life really is about different moments in time. There was a time when every night for us was a date night and we would spend our evenings heading out to restaurants for dinner or enjoying romantic nights in with candles and all that soppy stuff (and that was just me doing that, Sharlee is way tougher). Then kids came along … and now the setup for a night off is to get the hell out of the house as quickly as possible leaving the little darlings with the sitter (thanks Effie!), to enjoy dinner and then to race back to make sure that everyone’s ok and that the house hasn’t burnt down. Times have changed.

It is lovely, though, when you do get the house to yourself, kids or not, to actually be able to take the time to sit down, share a meal and talk to one another. This is why I think food and the table we eat it on plays such an important role in all our lives (well, it does for us), helping provide that shared point of connection. So here are a couple of menus that we have enjoyed together in the past – full of simple, easy things that we both love to eat and share together indoors and out, and a little more grown up than what we eat every day.
