For a last-minute dinner party, when craving comfort food and you are short of time but still want to impress your guests, then this recipe is for you. It will look as though you have spent hours in the kitchen baking, and your friends will be most impressed and grateful. Only you and I know how easy this recipe really is…

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
200g butter, chilled and diced, plus extra, softened, for greasing
5 reinette,cox or gala apples
70g caster sugar
50g ground almonds
50g raisins
150g plain flour
50g brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°. Butter a round baking or pie dish and set aside.
  2. Peel and core the apples, then cut into chunks. Place in the baking dish and sprinkle over 1 tablespoon of the caster sugar, the ground almonds and the raisins.
  3. Put the flour, remaining caster sugar and brown sugar, cinnamon and diced butter in a bowl and rub in the butter with your fingertips until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Spread the crumble evenly over the apples and bake for 40 minutes, until lightly golden and bubbling. Serve warm with or without custard.
