Ok, so some of those baking recipes were pretty indulgent. And let’s face it, sometimes one slice of cake just doesn’t cut it. So here are some of the ways to exercise without even realizing it.

Skipping

Not just for the school playground, no sir. Skipping is actually a killer calorie-burner. Grab a rope with friends and see who can keep going for the longest.

Giving the house a once over

Granted, no one likes cleaning the house but, believe it or not, whipping round the living room with your vacuum cleaner is in fact exercise.

Den building

Ok, so your housemates might think you’re strange but if you’ve never built a den then you are seriously missing out. A favourite weekend pastime of big and little kids alike – the bigger the better. And yes, once you’ve built your den it is acceptable to spend the rest of the day curled up inside watching films.

Getting off the metro/bus one stop earlier

One of the easiest ways to get a bit of exercise in, and you don’t even have to put your gym lycra on! Just get off the bus one stop earlier and stretch your legs a bit. In fact if you try to take a slightly different route every day, you’ll even start discovering new places!

Learning a martial art

Martial arts are not only great for making you feel like a superhero, they can be a pretty handy skill to have if you ever find yourself in a sticky situation.

Having a boogie

Having a boogie, as your dad might say, is a surefire way to get your heart rate up and put a smile on your face.

Every household has that list on the fridge of ‘odd jobs to do’ that has been there for about two years, right? Well, putting up those shelves or assembling the flatpack furniture is actually a pretty good workout.

Cycling to work

Not much to explain here. Good for you AND saves you money.

Yoga

No, you don’t have to be able to put your leg behind your head to become yogi. There are lots of different types of yoga, so try a few out and see which one you like the best. Not only does yoga encourage you to take a second out of your day and just breaaaaaaathe, it is also great for increasing strength and flexibility

Gardening

Give your garden a bit of love and spend some time mowing the grass or planting some veggies; you’ll be surprised how hard it is. If you don’t have your own garden, check out what’s going on in your local community and if there is anything you can help with.
