Make these sandwiches for your friends when they drop by after school. I guarantee they’ll love them and they’ll love you for making them!

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
1 teaspoon olive oil
8 bacon ‘eyes’, (the round part of the bacon rasher is called the ‘eye’)
8 slices square white bread, lightly toasted
4 tablespoons mayonnaise
1/2 cup grated cheddar cheese
4 lettuce leaves, cut in half, (8 leaves in total)
1 large tomato, thinly sliced

Equipment

Quantity Ingredient
sharp knife and chopping board
frying pan
large baking tray
tongs
grater
paper towels
toaster
spatula
measuring spoons
measuring cups
toothpicks

Method

  1. Ask a grown-up to help you preheat the oven to 180ºC.
  2. Measure the oil into a frying pan and ask a grown-up to heat it over a medium heat. Fry the bacon until crisp, then carefully lift it onto paper towel to drain.
  3. Place 2 slices of toast on a chopping board and top each with ½ tablespoon of mayonnaise. Spread it on evenly. Sprinkle a little grated cheese onto one piece of toast and top it with a piece of crispy bacon, a slice of tomato and a lettuce leaf. Place the ‘lid’ on top (mayo side down!) Repeat until all the sandwiches are made.
  4. Ask a grown-up to help you cut each sandwich into 4 little triangles. Stick a toothpick through each triangle and place them on a baking tray.
  5. Ask a grown-up to put the tray into the oven and heat the sandwiches for 5 minutes.
  6. To serve, use tongs to carefully arrange the sandwiches on a platter.
