Tom Kitchin's Story

Tom Kitchin opened his first restaurant, The Kitchin, with his wife Michaela, on Edinburgh’s Leith waterfront in 2006. Since then he has taken the nation’s culinary scene by storm. His passion for the finest seasonal produce and his Scottish heritage are reflected in his cooking, as is his French training under some of the world’s best chefs – including Pierre Koffmann, Guy Savoy and Alain Ducasse.

In January 2007, The Kitchin was awarded a coveted Michelin star – just six months after opening. Since then Tom has received nationwide recognition with various accolades and awards, including Best UK Restaurant in the Square Meal Awards (2011), Observer Food Monthly Restaurant of the Year (2010), Four AA Rosettes (2010) and listed No. 2 in Eat Out Magazine’s UK Top 100 Best Restaurants (2009).

Since reaching the finals of BBC2’s Great British Menu series, Tom has become a familiar personality on television. He appears regularly on BBC’s Saturday Kitchen, and has joined BBC’s Masterchef final chef’s table on occasions. This is his first book devoted entirely to home cooking.
