Grand Final Weekend is upon us, and you’ve realised you have no idea what you’re going to serve your hungry footy fans! Lucky for you, I’ve pulled together some goal-kicking dishes that will guarantee a brilliant day, even if your team doesn’t get up.
No doubt, the chip aisle in your local supermarket will conveniently have 2-for-1 sales on all your least-healthy options, but you can also prepare some tempting snacks without the trans fatty acids, which have been linked to many forms of cancer and significantly contribute to weight gain. Instead, try out Dale Pinnock’s kale, feta and dill pâté, accompanied by crudités – raw vegetables have never tasted so good!

You can’t really go past dips on game day, but did you know that a pre-packaged avocado dip could contain as little as 15% avocado? Instead they are filled with unnecessary fats, flavours and colourings. It’s just as easy to whip up an actual avocado, with lime juice adding extra flavour to Tiffany Goodall’s guacamole.
One of my key tips for Grand Final Day is to not spend too much time in the kitchen; the best part is catching up with friends and enjoying the beautiful weather. A barbecued platter of spring lamb cutlets from Giancarlo and Katie Caldesi accompanied by a herby potato salad from the Green Kitchen will easily impress without too much fuss.

At halftime, you can either bring out the orange wedges, or opt for The Bergenström’s luscious fruit salad with ginger and mint. I also suggest casually handing out Tiffany Hall’s Fig and almond balls each time someone screams out “ball!” during the game… they’ll be gone by the end of the first quarter; trust me.

Final hot tip: if your guests are prone to game-time rage, take comfort in the fact that the compound resveratrol, found in red wine, can relax and reduce the pressure within blood vessels, reducing the risk of myocardial infarction… in layman’s terms, Tom Hunt’s Orange Sangria may prevent mid-game heart attacks.
