How else can one celebrate Bastille Day than with the rich, comforting dishes the French are known for? Just add a knob of butter, a dash of red wine, and of course, that all-important je ne sais quoi. Ahead are some ideas to get you started…

Pour le petit-déjeuner
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, there’s no two ways about it. And the French have mastered the art with dishes such as crispy galettes with ham and eggs and flaky pain au chocolat. If you have the time, we’d recommend making croissants from scratch – kneading the dough, letting it rest, and watching it rise gently over 24 hours.

Pour le goûter
Could it get any better than catching up with friends over a molten wheel of cheese? Try the Three Sister’s camembert fondue, best served with the wine you splash on top.

Pour le plat principale
Warm yourself from winter’s chill with hearty beef bourguignon served atop a bed of cauliflower and leek puree.

Pour le dessert
It would be blasphemous to exclude the ultimate French dessert, crêpes au beurre noisette, from your menu. Top these beauties with berries and cream, or keep it classic with lemon and sugar.
