Pelvis-thrusting Popsley, the king of sponge. Just be sure to bake him tender…

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
6 Body pops
200g black candy melts
small, microwave-safe plastic bowl
toothpicks
3/4 teaspoon gum tragacanth
30g black sugarpaste
small, sharp knife
paintbrushes
palette
rejuvenator spirit
gold lustre dust
red blossom tint
silver balls
edible glue
50g red sugarpaste
rolling pin
polystyrene block

Method

  1. Make 6 boy body pops with white bodies. Set aside to dry.
  2. Prepare the black candy melts in the plastic bowl according to the instructions on the packet.
  3. Dip Elvis’s head into the black candy melts to create his hair. Use a toothpick to achieve the Elvis quiff (don’t forget the sideburns!). Repeat for the remaining pops and set aside to dry.
  4. To make Elvis’s Vegas-era shades, knead ¼ teaspoon gum tragacanth into the black sugarpaste to make it easier to shape. Take a pea-sized amount, flatten it down and shape into shades by hand or with a small, sharp knife. Fix into place with a small amount of the candy melts left over from his body. Repeat for the remaining pops and set aside to dry.
  5. Using a thin paintbrush, mix a small amount of gold lustre dust with a few drops of rejuvenator spirit and paint the rim of his shades onto all six pops. Do the same to apply his lips and collar in red blossom tint.
  6. Stud Elvis’s white jumpsuit with silver balls, fixed into place with a small amount of edible glue and pressed into place with a toothpick. Repeat for the remaining pops.
  7. For his cape, knead ½ teaspoon gum tragacanth into the red sugarpaste as above. Roll it flat with your rolling pin and cut out six rectangles (use the body to judge the right size). Fix into position with a small amount of leftover white candy melts. Repeat for the remaining pops and set aside to dry completely in a polystyrene block.
