Billy Law's Story
Masterchef audience favourite, Billy Law, of Malaysian Chinese descent, now resides in Sydney and is proud to call Australia home.
But when Billy originally moved to Australia in 1996 to further his studies, he missed home cooked meals tremendously. That’s when he picked up a spatula and a wok and his passion for cooking began.
“When it comes to cooking, my biggest inspiration has to be my mum. You will find some recipes on my blog that I’ve learned at my mother’s side, even though we weren’t really allowed to touch anything in the kitchen but only to observe. I do believe this was great training as I now cook by following my instincts and am always ready to explore new flavours, rather than to strictly follow recipes”.
With his Malay Chinese background and the influence of western culture, he counts himself lucky to have been exposed to some of the most spectacular cuisines from both worlds. Billy is always on the move, with his camera, travelling to different countries, exploring cultures, submerging himself in the sights and sounds of the culinary world.
