Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
2 onions
2-3 tablespoons plain flour
pinch salt
500ml oil, for deep-frying

Method

  1. Peel the onions and slice into 5-mm thick rings. In a bowl, gently mix them with the flour and salt. Transfer to a plate to lose any excess flour. Heat the oil in a deep, heavy-based saucepan until hot enough for an onion ring dropped in to start sizzling right away. Deep-fry the onions in small batches until light golden. Do not cook them for too long, otherwise they will become bitter. Remove from the oil with a slotted spoon, and drain on kitchen paper.
